Nash it out
The most interesting conference semifinal match-up IMO is the suns-spurs series. It is highly probable that the NBA champion would come out of this series. To watch this little guy run up and down the court has been a privilege. I've only caught glimpses of his games during the regular season, and the importance of this series has made me sit down and watch full games. In doing so, I have been able to understand why this guy is so special. 2 time MVP and finished 2 nd in the MVP voting a 3 rd time. Is this guy really that good ? Just sit down and watch a couple of his games and you'll know. If anything, he's under rated. In spite of all the MVP talk, he does not get as much attention from the media or sponsors as the other superstars like Lebron or a D-wade do. Suns have a great team. Amare and Marion are superstars in their own right and Barbosa would start in just about every other team and would probably be a 22-25 point scorer every day. But without nash, the whole system would crumble and the suns would not be half as successful. They operate under a simple scheme. Get the defensive rebound, get it to nash, run the distance of the court in under 4 seconds, a few screens, collapse on the paint and pass the ball out to a wide open shooter. There are no secrets here. Their success has been due to nash's extra ordinary dribbling skills and finding the open man. Easy as it may sound, he does it with tremendous consistency. And he can hurt you with his shooting skills too. It was obvious to me, that Nash means more to the success of this team than any other super star's presence to his team. If not for all the championships, a comparison with MJ's role, would not sound stupid. Kobe means a lot to his team, Wade to his and Lebron to his. But nobody's presence is as important to his team's success as Steve nash's. I am rooting for his team to go all the way !

Suns basketball is only a step above Golden State's run and gun offense. Their defense is downright horrendous.
Hence they really can't match up against the great teams in the West. In fact, even against a so-so young team, the Jazz, they lost 3 out of 4 regular season games. Its not surprising they keep losing each year in the playoffs

Sriram,
I agree that an offensive minded team will find it hard to go deep in the playoffs. And that's why a lot of the experts picked SA to win. But watching steve nash operate was an absolute pleasure. This guy never gets the props IMO. You talk about Kobe and Lebron for this era's greatness. Steve nash never gets mentioned in the same breath and I think he should.
Also, they did really well against SA too I thought. The difference between an up tempo offensive minded team and a solid fundamental defense based team was not very high. It was a close series. If not for the stupidity of amare and diaw, it was still a 50-50 shot.

Winning 2 NBA MVP's back to back is not considered "getting props". Come on! He has been recognized. IMO, he should have won it again, and that's what a lot of other analysts have said too.
Nash is the best PG in this era. I think majority of the people would agree to that. What more recognition do you need?
More TV commercial time is not the only reflection of "greatness". Within basketball circles, he is considered one of the legends of this era.
To translate that into commercials, and more 'air' time, he needs to be charismatic, ala Lebron/Kobe, and you can't acquire that.

I am not saying he's forgotten. Yes, MVP voting time, he's always mentioned. Clearly, the brand of basketball he's playing is amazing. I agree with you that it can't win championships as history has shown with the spurs and mavericks in the same conference. If you forget about championships and just watch them execute, it gives you a rush. And it's like the whole team rhymes to nash's tune. You get that feeling with no other player in the league. Not Kobe, not Lebron, not D wade. All these players can take over games at any given point in time, but this guy makes his players better in true sense of the phrase.

I don't care about air time da. Only on the inside circles, people talk about his greatness. That understanding is not prevalent. Not everybody thinks he's one of the legends! When I observe everything that goes on in NBA, he's still not given his due respect is what I feel. And just for that reason, I want him to contend for another MVP next season.
